Saturday's Boiling Springs All-Star roundup

NEWPORT - Drew Johnson and Caleb Burnham posted two hits each to help guide the Boiling Springs 9-10-year-old All-Stars to a 7-5 victory over South Durham Saturday in state tournament action.
The win sends Boiling Springs into a winner's bracket contest Sunday at 2:30 p.m. against either Nortwest Forsyth or Greenville North State.
Luke Graves, Luke Patrick, T.J. Trexler and Ryan Whitaker added one hit each for Boiling Springs.
Matt Bridges picked up the win on the mound. Whitaker, Drexler, Burnham and Jacob Clark worked in relief.
11-year-old All-Star squad falls
WEDDINGTON - The Boiling Springs 11-year-old All-Star team suffered a 16-11 loss to Weddington American in the first round of state tournament action on Saturday.
Ryan Jones and Dalton Peeler had three hits each. Ben Canipe, Bradley Keller, Chase Halbert and Ben Copper added two hits apiece. Canipe slugged a three-run home run in the sixth.
Boiling Springs takes on Northern Durham at 4:15 p.m. Sunday in an elimination game.
