Shelby's Brooks to play in East-West game

GREENSBORO - Shelby High graduate Corey Brooks will be playing in the East-West All-Star football game Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Jamieson Stadium.
Brooks will be competing for the West team coached by David Diamont of East Surry.
Brooks, a three-year starter for the Golden Lions, finished with a team-high 124 tackles with 28 unassisted stops from his linebacker spot. Brooks had 46 tackles for lost yards with 28 sacks and also added five blocked kicks.
He was named the Star's Cleveland County Player of the Year in 2007 and was the two-time Defensive Player of the Year in the Southwestern 2A/3A Conference.
The six-foot, 170-pounder will be headed to College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Ill. in the fall and will play football at the junior college.
