Amanda Graye Webb and Michael Charles Buchanan were married Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Eastside Baptist Church.
The Rev. Leland Kerr officiated the 5 p.m. ceremony.
About the bride: Amanda is the daughter of Harvey and Jean Webb of Shelby. She is the granddaughter of Sidney and Mildred Dixon of Kings Mountain, Frances Webb of Shelby and the late Cecil Webb. She is a graduate of Shelby High School and a magna cum laude graduate of Western Carolina University. She was presented in the 2000 Shelby Junior Charity League's Debutante Ball and was a member of Phi Mu sorority. She is employed by Cleveland County Schools.
About the bridegroom: Mike is the son of R.C. and Gene Buchanan of Sylva. He is the grandson of Mary Lee Watson and the late John R. Watson and the late Rufus Candler Sr. and Mary Buchanan, all of Sylva. He is a graduate of Smoky Mountain High School and is employed by the North Carolina State Department of Transportation.
The ceremony: Pianist Leslie Brown and vocalist Mandy Styers provided the music. The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
The bride wore: A strapless ivory gown of silk taffeta with a corset back and an asymmetrical lace bodice with silk taffeta sash crossing the middle. She also wore a chapel-length veil edged with lace that was borrowed from and worn in honor of her mother. She carried a simple, hand-wrapped bouquet of fresh white hydrangeas. Her attendants carried hand-wrapped bouquets of green hydrangeas.
The bride's attendants: Matron of honor was the bride's cousin, Ashley Mallik of Cary. Bridesmaids were Quinn Saleeby of Hardeeville, S.C., Natalie Rogers, Maggie Singleton and Brooke Lee, all of Shelby, Amber Sigmon of Lincolnton and Tara Thrutchley of Lawrenceville, Ga. Flower girl was the bride's cousin, Kelsey Ann Cabiness of Brunswick, Ga.
The bridegroom's attendants: Best men were the bridegroom's sons, Corey Buchanan and Cole Buchanan, both of Sylva. Groomsmen were the bride's uncle, Aaron Dixon of Gastonia, Jeremy Ledbetter of Sylva, Richard Fortner of Bryson City, Dennis Morgan II of Shelby and Toby Mallik of Cary. Ring bearer was the bride's cousin, Logan Mallik of Cary. Usher was the bride's cousin, Andy Dixon of Gastonia.
Other attendants: Wedding directors were Erin Driscoll of Asheville and Lea Price Lang of Hickory. Honorary bridesmaids attended the register and programs, Samantha Meyers of Charlotte, Rebecca Owens of Atlanta and Shannon Zalinski and Karen Taylor, both of Raleigh. Passages were read by Lindy Wease and Katie Harris, both of Shelby.
The reception: Hosted by the bride's parents and grandmother, Frances Webb, at Cleveland Country Club. Music was provided by a DJ. Guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Scott Thornburg and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Martin. Decorations included floating candles surrounded by ivy and greenery adorning the tables. Two large green hydrangea centerpieces decorated the buffet table and entryway. An array of candles and hydrangeas were placed on the mantle.
The rehearsal dinner: Hosted by the bride's parents at the Shelby City Park Carrousel.
After the wedding: The couple took a cruise to the Caribbean Islands and live in Shelby.
Parties and celebrations: A church shower was given by Katie Harris, Lindy Wease and Tasha Brown at Eastside Baptist Church. A gift card shower was given by friends of the bride's parents at The Bradford House. Miscellaneous showers were given by Wanda and Natalie Rogers at the home of Natalie Rogers and by Kathie Burgin and Linda Horn at the home of Kathie Burgin. An "around the house" shower was given by co-workers and friends at the home of Karen Martin. A bridesmaid's luncheon was hosted by the bride's aunt, Anita Cabiness, cousin, Ashley Mallik, and Melanie Cabiness at the Cabiness home.
